Fun in the Sun

Welcome to Arizona!

Phoenix, AZ — Even the Wal-Mart here is a lovely adobe building ringed in tall palm trees and ancient Saguaro cacti. The Bondurant Racing School, located at the Firebird Race Track on Indian land (there is a luxury casino resort nearby, natch) is a state-of-the-art playground for people with a need for speed. Did I just make a Top Gun reference? I'm so sorry.

Taking the Gran Prix racing course with me are an assortment of wealthy men, many of whom took this and similar courses before. The instructors are outstanding, the course extremely worthwhile (racing skills, accident-avoidance measures, a smattering of mechanics), and, hello? We get to hoon around in a Corvette C6 or Z06.

Legendary race car driver Bob Bondurant celebrates 40 years operating a successful driving school on Valentine's Day. Ain't it sweet?

Next: Barrett-Jackson Auction.
