Here He Comes, Here Comes Speed Racer
In just over a year, fans of Speed, Trixie, Spritle and Chim-Chim and Rex (Racer X) will delight in the live action remake of our beloved early indoctrination into Japanese anime: May 9, 2008 brings us the Wachowski Brothers (Matrix, V for Vendetta) big screen adaptation of the Speed Racer gang's exploits. So far, reports have Christina Ricci as Trixie, Matthew Fox as Racer X, Susan Sarandon as Mom and John Goodman as Pops Speed, and Emile Hirsch as the Mach 5's pilot and title character.
As for the car, Producer Joel Silver enigmatically said to Empire, "I don't know if we can even use real cars."
Come on now. You're telling me in that in a time where car and movie effects customization and innovation are both at an all-time glorious acme, you can't take a Lamborghini or Spyker or Koenigsegg and trick it out to the gadget limit? Foley guys these days can't replicate the signature Mach 5 throttle sound? Harumph. Then again, maybe a modded-out Corvette will fit the bill?
Anyway, it can't be any worse than the Scooby Doo movies, can it?
